Documents say that James Lee Mills had a total of 11 children: 9 from his 1st marriage and, 2 from his 2nd marriage. However, I can not find all names. According to the 1850 Census of Iredell County, North Carolina, it lists 8 children:

  1. Zachock H. born 1832
  2. John W. born 1834
  3. James David, born 1836
  4. (Twin) Rachel, born 1839
  5. (Twin) Lamirah Jane, born 1839
  6. Margaret Matilda, born 1842
  7. Mary Lucinda, born 1845
  8. Nancy, born 1850

-------------------------------------

Sarah Jane (Robertson) (Fields) Mills

Born: October 8, 1833 in Guilford/Alamance, Orange County, North Carolina.

Sarah Jane was the daughter of Stanford Robertson and Ann Millican (Cummins) Robertson.

Sarah Jane was the 2nd wife of James Lee Mills.

James Lee Mills 2nd marriage was to Sarah Jane on July 22, 1866 in Montgomery County, Illinois.

This marriage produced one child: Luella Francis Mills, born 1869 in Illinois.

Luella died in 1943 in Colorado.

Records show Luella was married to John Washington Dilworth (born 1865 in Grant County, Kentucky), and that they had one child:

  1. Lellie Raymond Dilworth.

The following is from James Lee Mills' Obituary, as published in the book, "A Multitude Of Mills" by Phyllis Poston Jennings. Phyllis Jennings is a Mills descendant. (This obituary differs somewhat from other information available, but all sources of information are included).

James Lee Mills, aged 85 years, 8 months, 1 day, died 6/10/1899 at Morrisonville, Illinois at the home of his daughter, Mrs J B White. He was a native of Iredell County and a third cousin of "Squire Billy" Mills of Iredell. He married Lucinda Summers of Iredell and they had nine children, four of whom survive. He moved with his family to Montgomery County Illinois in 1851. His wife died and he married a Mrs. Fields now deceased and of their children, two survive.

James Lee Mills is buried at Cress Hill Cemetery near Hillsboro, Illinois.
